Pictures

I pulled these photos out of my flickr account.  I need to pay to get a yearly subscription though, as I’ve used up half my alloted amount already.

Dylan Aubrey Closs, with Dad.  Less than one full day old.

Dylan in the hospital bassinet, with Mom’s hand.

Dylan at home, with her blankies.  Sam thought she looked like she was praying, so I snapped a couple of pictures of her like this while she was in her moses basket.

Baby Dylan with Auntie Jen. (I love that bambi blanket. Shhh!)

The earliest picture ever of her.  This is right after delivery on mommy’s chest, still cord attached.  At this point the Dr. was attaching the clamps and whatnot in preperation for me to cut the cord, which I did.  Didn’t know if I would be able to – but it wasn’t so difficult.  The hard part was stopping the waterworks while I did it. ;)

More posts to come with details about the whole adventure, and how things are going now.  For now, the quick update is that Ivy is doing good as a big sister, we’re settling in fine, and Dylan is super cute.  We’re very, very happy.  And we need sleepers with mittens built in! ;)

We’re Baaaaaack!

March 20, 2008 · 5 Comments

We got home today.  I’ve got pics of Dylan uploading into flickr right now, but we have to jet out.  I’ll put a longer post up when I get back, and I’ll put some of those pictures on the front page as well.

So for now, yes, she is beautiful.  She’s a perfect little baby girl, and we’re both really excited.  She’s getting to meet her family and friends, and we are  home.  You can phone us at home and we’ll try to answer.  You can feel free to stop by, and we’ll most likely be home, but no promises!

If you check our most recent flickr uploads on the right hand side you should be able to see the pics as my flickr uploader gets them on there.  I need to buy a flickr account so I can put up more pics and make more albums.

Talk to you later!  Thanks everyone! And thank you especially to Erin for updating our site while things were going on.  We talked to some people who enjoyed it, and we’re very thankful!

32 hours later…

March 19, 2008 · Leave a Comment

I just phoned Jeff (it’s 11:13am on Wednesday), to see how things are going…

Sam is still in labour – her contractions are now 2 min. apart and lasting about 1 min. each.

That’s really all I know for now. I’ll post again when something more exciting happens.

**EDIT**

Sam’s water broke at 11:55am today, and she’s now 6cm. YAY! I asked if this means we’ll be saying hello to the new one today… and Sam assured me that s/he will arrive today, even if she has to reach in and pull it out herself. Ahhh…Sam,SMILE

Various and Sundry

March 18, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Sitting at home, chillin.

Sam is tired, she’s been up since before 3am. She just had a contraction at 10:37 – so we are measuring to find the next one before we call our Mom’s back and give them the update. Also, more to the point for Sam, she can try and get some sleep after the next one.

We went shopping this morning, washed the truck. Put the infant seat in. Bought some necessities.

Now we’re sitting at home, so I did a geeky test, this is the result I got.

You are a dog
Or maybe you are a mosquito, you certainly can’t be human. The highest pitched ultrasonic mosquito ringtone that I can hear is 21.1kHz
Find out which ultrasonic ringtones you can hear!

I figured I’d take the test online, and find out what is the highest of the “silent” ringtones I can here.  Turns out I have pretty good ears still, surprisingly.

More later.

I added Erin from evilclomid.com to our blog as a contributer.  She should be able to login and post an update if need be.  You can phone me Erin if you like, or I can phone you once things get moving and we know it’s not false labor.

I hope you don’t mind that I just imposed  on you by selecting you to be our update person. ;)

Contractions!

March 18, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Sam’s been having contractions since about 3am.  They’re still about 20 mins apart, but regular.  We’re planning that we might have to go to the hospital today.

I’ll update here and by phone when I get the chance – if I can’t get to here I’ll phone Erin and give her my password so she can update.

As Seen on Slashdot: III

March 12, 2008 · Leave a Comment

In an interesting article on slashdot today, I found a couple of equally interesting responses:

Although I didn’t expect much from a military man.

That’s ok – he’ll still put his life on the line to protect your right to continue to whine.

-thrillseeker (518224)

Cool.  Good answer to a bit of cynicism, I respect our military, and the people who serve in it. However, that doesn’t mean I must by neccessity respect all the decisions the military makes as a whole, or the decisions of all military personell.  To that point, the following answer was seen on the same slashdot comments page.
That’s ok – he’ll still put his life on the line to protect your right to continue to whine.

Yawn. This is the stock answer to any criticism of the military, and it’s crap. Yes, the military is important. Yes, military personnel take risks that most civilians don’t, and should be honored for their service. But this does not mean that civilians — you know, the people the military exists for — shouldn’t be able to criticize the military in general, and certainly doesn’t mean that they shouldn’t criticize individual military personnel when they retreat into bureaucratic doublespeak instead of giving a straight answer to a question. There’s a lot that’s right with the military. There’s also a lot that’s wrong. It is the right and duty of the people to call bullshit when they see it, WRT the military or any other part of the government.

There are countries where this isn’t the case, of course. I doubt you’d want to live in any of them.
